Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
Week Two of the Novena: November 25
Every Monday, after the 12 Noon Mass, our Parish prays the Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. On Monday, November 18, we began another 9 Mondays of prayer through Our Lady. Bring your intention, as there will be some silence to offer your intention to the Lord through Mary. In addition, each time we begin a novena (every tenth week), Fr. Sorgie will invest anyone who does not have a blessed Miraculous Medal.
On November 27, 1830, Our Lady appeared to St. Catherine Labouré in Paris at the Motherhouse of the Daughters of Charity and asked Catherine to have a medal cast. Our Parish has a relic of St. Catherine which will be venerated during the final hymn of the novena each week.
The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, was first made by goldsmith Adrien Vachette and approved for use by Archbishop Hyacinthe-Louis de Quélen from the Archdiocese of Paris in 1836.

Our Parish will be accepting non-perishable food at all Thanksgiving Masses to give to local pantries. Thank you for your generosity in providing meals to those in need!
In observance of Thanksgiving, the Parish Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28-29. In addition, there will not be Adoration this Thursday. Adoration will resume next Thursday, December 5.
Thanksgiving Collection and Nicaragua
Once again, we will share our Thanksgiving collection with our brothers and sisters struggling in Nicaragua. Many years ago, we adopted this School where hundreds of children have been educated in the best Catholic tradition of education. The Parish itself also benefits from our generosity. Let’s make this our best year ever.

Gift labels for the Jesse Tree will be available beginning next weekend. We ask that all gifts be NEW and placed in a gift bag (no wrapped gifts, please) with the label attached to the gift bag. The gift labels will be placed at the entrances of both churches. If you’d like to participate, please return the gifts to either church by Sunday, December 15. This year, the Jesse Tree Ministry will be serving 5 local organizations that aid children and adults in need. Thank you for your generosity!

Come Adore the Lord
Have You Considered Becoming a Committed Adorer?
Do you regularly come to adore the Lord during Exposition on Thursdays or first Fridays? Do you usually visit at a consistent time of day?
If so, consider becoming a committed adorer and join the Eucharistic Adoration Apostolate, moderated by Fr. Sorgie and coordinated by Patty Debitetto. The Apostolate answers the call to ensure that there are at least two adorers present throughout the hours of adoration.

Pope St. John Paul II Men's Group
The Pope St. John Paul II Men's Group will begin to once again hold regularly scheduled meetings. We plan to meet every other Saturday morning in the Parish Center from 8 - 9:15 AM, before most family and weekend activities begin. All men are warmly invited and encouraged to join us for fellowship, prayer, Scripture readings, discussions, and more. We will allow the Holy Spirit to guide us.
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, December 7, at 8 AM, in the Parish Center.
Our group will offer mutual support as we discuss the challenges of being faithful Catholic men, husbands, fathers, coworkers, and members of the community. There will be no formal sign-up, no membership dues, and no formalities. We just invite you to come!

Our lives are filled with mystery. In the classical sense, a mystery is something that is beyond our ability to fully understand. For many of us, life’s two greatest mysteries are birth and death.
When someone close to us dies, we are often left with unanswered questions and unresolved emotions. In those times, it is often helpful to come together in a loving and compassionate community to talk and pray about what is happening in our lives.

Join the
Altar Server Ministry
Our Parish is seeking to increase the number of our Altar Servers. This very important ministry offers our young people a chance to provide a vital service by assisting the priests in the celebration of Sunday Mass, the heart of our faith. Servers may also be given opportunities to serve at weddings, funerals, and other special liturgies. It is a great privilege and honor to serve at the altar of Jesus Christ.
This opportunity to serve provides our young boys and girls with a special means to grow closer to our Lord and to serve our Parish community. Recruitment is open to boys and girls who:
- Were Baptized in the Roman Catholic Church
- Are 8 to 17 years old
- Have received their First Holy Communion
They will be fully trained and will quickly grow to love serving at the altar.

As we await the canonization of Blessed Clelia Merloni, Foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, consider viewing 100 Hearts, a new film based on her life that is currently available on Formed. Beautification and Memorialization in the Prayer Garden at Assumption
Cleaning and Restoration of the Memorial Bricks in the Assumption Prayer Garden
The Parish has had the Memorial Bricks in the Prayer Garden thoroughly cleaned and the engravings repainted by Cave Company of Long Island. Now framed and elevated, the bricks are no longer at risk of being stepped on, so this cleaning will last for many years to come. If you or your family have a memorial brick and would like to assist the Parish in the cost of the process ($20 per brick), please fill out the form below.

Tree of Life Rooted in the Sacred Heart of Jesus
A Tree of Life, rooted in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, will be placed in a prominent position of the Prayer Garden at Assumption Church, attached to the new wrought-iron fencing near the waterfall. This Tree of Life will provide an opportunity, with an engraved leaf, acorn, stone, or dove to honor various occasions in the lives of your loved ones and to memorialize them when they have passed into eternal life. Each memorial is made out of durable polycarbonate, also known as Lexan, so that these memorials will stand the test of time.
The procedure is simple: for each memorial, fill out an order form, available below or at the Usher’s tables in each church and in the Parish Office. Please call the Parish Office at (914) 961-3643 with any questions.

The Little Portion Secular Franciscan Fraternity
The Secular Franciscan Order was established by St. Francis of Assisi more than 800 years ago, and is one part of the third branch of the Franciscan Order. It consists of single and married men and women and diocesan clergy who are called to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in their everyday life by following in the footsteps of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi.
The Little Portion Secular Franciscan Fraternity was formed in the South Bronx in 1982, when a group of friends came together to renovate and operate a retreat house for the poor. The fraternity has grown over the years, bringing in those who feel the call to serve in their day-to-day lives. The fraternity takes its name from the Porziuncola (Little Portion), the church that St. Francis rebuilt early in his ministry.
The call to be Franciscan is a call to holiness, a call to action, and a call to contemplative prayer. If you feel led to pursue a Franciscan vocation of ministry, prayer and service, please contact Pat Spana, O.F.S., Minister, at pspana252@gmail.com.
