ASCJ Mission in Port-au-Prince, HAITI
Over the past 15 years, the beautiful spirit and the dire needs of the people have shaped the mission of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Haiti, moving the congregation to open Sacre Coeur de Jesus Institute, a K – 6 school in the Croix-des-Bouquets area of Port-au-Prince in 2012. While Haiti has long been rated as the poorest society in the Caribbean region, the current civil unrest is exacerbating the situation further.
Currently, the Croix des Bouquets area is greatly affected by gang violence and kidnapping. Violence, mistreatment, and abuse of all kinds await children in these neighborhoods who are recruited or even abducted into gangs. Sacre Coeur de Jesus provides a safe haven for the 250 children served. The leaders and staff of Sacre Coeur de Jesus must address the anxiety and trauma of their students, threatened daily by the violent environment in which they live. In addition, the school is now providing the only substantial meal the children receive each day. The sisters are also providing as much food as possible to sustain the families whose parents have lost jobs and are unable to sustain their families.
In the past the Institute has been able to provide for these children with their ordinary income and some donations. Currently, however, with the limited security and government instability, many funding sources have terminated support for Haiti. Even the regular diet currently available of rice and beans is in limited supply. Nourishing foods containing protein – meat, fish, chicken, and vegetables are greatly needed.
We are asking you to consider a $250 donation to assist with providing food to a child. All donations received will be directly transferred to the Sisters working in Haiti for the purchase of food. Checks can be made out to Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with Haiti in the memo line. With your help, the Sacré Coeur de Jesus Institution can continue to aid in the education of the young students and to help supplement the daily food allotment and quality of meals for students and their families. Funding during these times of crisis will allow the institution to maintain these essential services. Thank you for your consideration.

Volunteers are needed to prepare or donate food to feed about 10-15 people, but any amount is appreciated. Items needed are listed below. The Pope St. John Paul II Men's Group
Our group meets every other Saturday morning in the Parish Center from 8 - 9:15 AM, before most family and weekend activities begin. All men over the age of 16 are warmly invited and encouraged to join us for fellowship, prayer, Scripture readings, discussions, and more. We will allow the Holy Spirit to guide us.
We typically start with the praying of the Divine Office-Morning Prayer in the Divine Mercy Chapel, followed by coffee, bagels and fellowship, along with some interesting and meaningful reflections upon the readings for the upcoming Sunday Mass. We also discuss various topics and issues pertaining to the challenges encountered in order to remain faithful Catholic men as we navigate life in a secular society. There is no sign-up, no membership dues, and no formalities. We just invite you to come whenever you can. The door is always open to new members who wish to join. Just show up, it's that simple!

Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
Week Five of the Novena: June 23
Every Monday, after the 12 Noon Mass, our Parish prays the Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. On Monday, June 23, we will pray the fourth week of the current Novena. Bring your intention, as there will be some silence to offer your intention to the Lord through Mary.
On November 27, 1830, Our Lady appeared to St. Catherine Labouré in Paris at the Motherhouse of the Daughters of Charity and asked Catherine to have a medal cast. Our Parish has a relic of St. Catherine which will be venerated during the final hymn of the novena each week.
The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, was first made by goldsmith Adrien Vachette and approved for use by Archbishop Hyacinthe-Louis de Quélen from the Archdiocese of Paris in 1836.
Summary of the Minutes of the Pastoral Council Meeting of May 15, 2025
• Masses, liturgies, and services of Holy Week were reviewed and deemed beautiful and extremely well attended.
• As per Principal Michelle LaMassa, Pocketbook BINGO at ICS was a successful fundraiser, which realized a net of $17,000. The bags were all donated by school families.
• After the death of Pope Francis, the school held five days of special events to honor and memorialize the Holy Father. Channel 2 News covered some of these events, and the Superintendent of Schools, ADNY, also participated.
• The Italian Mass continues to grow at Assumption Church.
• The Hispanic Ministry is very proactive and is always looking for ways to introduce new initiatives. There is a small leadership group that works directly with Fr. Sorgie. • The First Communions and Confirmations in our parish were beautifully conducted by Deacon John and his catechists.
• As per Deacon Frank, a Bereavement Mass, which is held twice a year for the families and friends of the recently deceased, was held on May 17.
• Howie Strawbridge reports that the next Hospitality Sunday will be held on Sunday, June 29, after the 10:00 AM mass at ICC.
• Fr. Sorgie reports that more than 3,000 people receive the Flocknote emails every Friday.
• Fr. Sorgie also reports that every week, we welcome new families to the Parish. Nine children were baptized on the weekend of May 17.
• Howie Strawbridge reports that issues with the connectivity of parish live streaming services are still being resolved. We have a message on our Parish website thanking people for their patience.
• Niches at the Columbarium at Holy Mount Cemetery continue to be sold. Every effort is being made to advertise and promote the Holy Mount Columbarium.
• Fr. Sorgie indicated that the IOP program is progressing well, and that the switch from We Share to the new OSV online payment system has done well. All participants have transitioned to the new system, and 50 more have joined the platform.
• The Parish Festival will run from May 29 to June 1. Come one, come all. Volunteer if you can.
• The Feast of Corpus Christi, June 22, will be celebrated in our parish with a procession, Benediction, and the final PRAYER OF EUCHARISTIC CONSECRATION for our parish.
• Our wonderful Eagle Scout Project will take place at Holy Mount Cemetery, which will include the installation of 394 vessels for our deceased veterans. The VFW will then place flags within these vessels.
• Plans are in the works for a bus trip to a Pilgrim Site for the Jubilee Year, followed by a meal, most likely in the fall. Stay tuned for the particulars of this event.
The next meeting of the Pastoral Council will be held on June 19.

celebrate the Eucharist but solemnly bears it in procession, publicly proclaiming that the sacrifice of Christ is for the salvation of the whole world.”
As a parish, let us honor the Most Blessed Sacrament as we bear our Eucharistic Lord in procession. Following the 10:00 AM Mass, we will process out of Immaculate Conception and out to the Shrine of Our Lady facing Route 22. Prayers and benediction will take place. Join us!
Eucharistic Consecration
Immaculate Conception and Assumption of Our Lady is a Parish consecrated to the Holy Eucharist. This weekend, at all the Masses, we will have the third consecration to the Holy Eucharist. Our lives are filled with mystery. In the classical sense, a mystery is something that is beyond our ability to fully understand. For many of us life’s two greatest mysteries are birth and death. When someone close to us dies we are often left with unanswered questions and unresolved emotions.
In those times it is often helpful to come together in a loving and compassionate community to talk and pray about what is happening in our lives. If you have experienced a loss, no matter how long ago it may be, and you feel that you would benefit from coming together in such a group, please contact the parish office at (914) 961-3643, and leave your name and contact information. About PREP
ICA’s Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is available to all public-school children in Grades 1 through 8 whose families are registered at ICA Parish. The program is intended to assist parents in fulfilling their obligation in the formation of their children in the Catholic faith. All families are expected to regularly attend Mass every Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation.

Beautification and Memorialization in the Prayer Garden at Assumption
Cleaning and Restoration of the Memorial Bricks in the Assumption Prayer Garden
The Parish has had the Memorial Bricks in the Prayer Garden thoroughly cleaned and the engravings repainted by Cave Company of Long Island. Now framed and elevated, the bricks are no longer at risk of being stepped on, so this cleaning will last for many years to come. If you or your family have a memorial brick and would like to assist the Parish in the cost of the process ($20 per brick), please fill out the form below.

Tree of Life Rooted in the Sacred Heart of Jesus
A Tree of Life, rooted in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, will be placed in a prominent position of the Prayer Garden at Assumption Church, attached to the new wrought-iron fencing near the waterfall. This Tree of Life will provide an opportunity, with an engraved leaf, acorn, stone, or dove to honor various occasions in the lives of your loved ones and to memorialize them when they have passed into eternal life. Each memorial is made out of durable polycarbonate, also known as Lexan, so that these memorials will stand the test of time.
The procedure is simple: for each memorial, fill out an order form, available below or at the Usher’s tables in each church and in the Parish Office. Please call the Parish Office at (914) 961-3643 with any questions.
