Summary of the Minutes of the Pastoral Council Meeting of May 15, 2025
• Masses, liturgies, and services of Holy Week were reviewed and deemed beautiful and extremely well attended.
• As per Principal Michelle LaMassa, Pocketbook BINGO at ICS was a successful fundraiser, which realized a net of $17,000. The bags were all donated by school families.
• After the death of Pope Francis, the school held five days of special events to honor and memorialize the Holy Father. Channel 2 News covered some of these events, and the Superintendent of Schools, ADNY, also participated.
• The Italian Mass continues to grow at Assumption Church.
• The Hispanic Ministry is very proactive and is always looking for ways to introduce new initiatives. There is a small leadership group that works directly with Fr. Sorgie. • The First Communions and Confirmations in our parish were beautifully conducted by Deacon John and his catechists.
• As per Deacon Frank, a Bereavement Mass, which is held twice a year for the families and friends of the recently deceased, was held on May 17.
• Howie Strawbridge reports that the next Hospitality Sunday will be held on Sunday, June 29, after the 10:00 AM mass at ICC.
• Fr. Sorgie reports that more than 3,000 people receive the Flocknote emails every Friday.
• Fr. Sorgie also reports that every week, we welcome new families to the Parish. Nine children were baptized on the weekend of May 17.
• Howie Strawbridge reports that issues with the connectivity of parish live streaming services are still being resolved. We have a message on our Parish website thanking people for their patience.
• Niches at the Columbarium at Holy Mount Cemetery continue to be sold. Every effort is being made to advertise and promote the Holy Mount Columbarium.
• Fr. Sorgie indicated that the IOP program is progressing well, and that the switch from We Share to the new OSV online payment system has done well. All participants have transitioned to the new system, and 50 more have joined the platform.
• The Parish Festival will run from May 29 to June 1. Come one, come all. Volunteer if you can.
• The Feast of Corpus Christi, June 22, will be celebrated in our parish with a procession, Benediction, and the final PRAYER OF EUCHARISTIC CONSECRATION for our parish.
• Our wonderful Eagle Scout Project will take place at Holy Mount Cemetery, which will include the installation of 394 vessels for our deceased veterans. The VFW will then place flags within these vessels.
• Plans are in the works for a bus trip to a Pilgrim Site for the Jubilee Year, followed by a meal, most likely in the fall. Stay tuned for the particulars of this event.
The next meeting of the Pastoral Council will be held on June 19.
